X Ends Revenue Sharing, Leaves Creators Eyeing New Rewards

The change could reshape how creators approach content on X, particularly those who have relied on the existing revenue-sharing arrangement as an additional source of income.

Creators on X are facing a major change in how they earn from the platform, with the social media giant set to end its revenue-sharing programme and replace it with a new rewards system for original content.

X, formerly known as Twitter, announced on Friday that its Revenue Sharing programme will end on September 7, 2026, leaving creators to adjust to a new system designed to reward original and meaningful contributions to conversations on the platform.

The company said creators currently enrolled in the Revenue Sharing programme will continue earning until September 7, with final payouts expected on September 11.

Under the new arrangement, applications for the Original Content Rewards Program will open on September 8, subject to creators meeting the required eligibility criteria.

Creators will be able to check their eligibility through Creator Studio under the Original Content Rewards section.

X said the new programme is aimed at rewarding users whose original content helps drive conversations and keeps people engaged on the platform.

“Today, we’re introducing the Original Content Rewards Program — a new way for creators to earn on X by sharing original content and contributing meaningfully to the conversation,” the company said.

For creators who have already completed identity verification and linked a valid payout method, X said there would be no need to repeat the process when moving to the new programme.

“Once approved, you’ll continue earning under the Original Content Rewards Program and its Terms and Conditions,” the company said.

The change could reshape how creators approach content on X, particularly those who have relied on the existing revenue-sharing arrangement as an additional source of income.

X said the new approach reflects its desire to place greater value on the people producing content that keeps the platform active.

The company highlighted breaking news, expert insights, personal experiences, creativity and commentary as examples of the original contributions it wants to reward.

“We want to reward the people who make X worth opening every day, so we’re evolving how creators earn here,” X said.
