Uba Sani hands house, N10m to family of lynched Kaduna teacher

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has fulfilled his promise to the family of the late Islamic teacher, Malama Ummulkhairi Muhammad, who was killed by a mob in Maraban Jos, by donating a house and N10 million to her widower, Malam Aliyu Muhammad.

Malama Ummulkhairi was lynched in June after some youths and women allegedly accused her of attempting to steal a child while she was on her way to attend an Islamic preaching session.

Investigations later established that the allegation was false, triggering widespread condemnation of the killing and renewed calls for an end to mob justice across the country.

Following the incident, security agencies arrested more than 80 suspects, while several have since been arraigned before a court on charges of culpable homicide.

During a condolence visit to the bereaved family shortly after the tragedy, Governor Sani had pledged to provide support to ease their hardship.

Presenting the assistance, the governor handed over a house and N10 million cash to the deceased's husband as part of the package promised to the family.

Speaking after receiving the donation, Aliyu expressed gratitude to the governor for standing by the family and honouring his commitment.

He said the intervention had given him and his children renewed hope following the painful loss of his wife.

According to him, the governor assured him that his children's education would not be interrupted and encouraged him to reach out whenever additional support was needed.

"Governor Uba Sani gave me N10 million in cash. He assured me that, by the grace of God, my children would return to school. He also directed those assigned to my case to continue supporting us whenever the need arises.

"I thank Almighty Allah and pray that He rewards the governor abundantly. Today, I am overwhelmed with joy because he has fulfilled the promise he made to my family," he said.

Aliyu also appreciated Nigerians for their prayers, sympathy and support since the tragic incident.

He said although more than 40 days had passed since his wife's death, the family continued to remember her kindness and prayed constantly for the repose of her soul.

The widower disclosed that the deceased left behind four children, adding that he, alongside his mother and second wife, was caring for them with support from other family members.
