Troops Rescue Zamfara Polytechnic Rector, Foil Multiple Kidnap Attempts

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled multiple kidnap attempts and rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, along with 22 other victims during separate operations in Zamfara State.

The military disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.

According to the statement, the first operation was carried out in the early hours of July 28 after troops received a distress call about an attack on Tsohon-Tasha Street in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

The terrorists reportedly stormed the residence of the rector, killing his private security guard and injuring another resident before attempting to abduct Dr. Yusuf and members of his family.

However, troops responded swiftly, engaged the attackers in a gun battle, and forced them to retreat, successfully rescuing the rector and his family without injury.

In a separate operation later the same day, troops on night patrol responded to another distress call from Tungan Dorawa in Barkeji Village, where armed terrorists were attempting to kidnap residents.

Despite the difficult terrain, the troops pursued the fleeing suspects, engaged them, and foiled the abduction attempt.

The military said troops also intercepted another group of terrorists in the same community who had targeted a prominent businessman, Alhaji Azaria.

The swift intervention forced the attackers to abandon their operation, leading to the rescue of Alhaji Azaria and 21 other civilians who had been abducted from neighbouring homes.

During the operations, troops also arrested a 45-year-old suspected terrorist informant, identified as Falalu Yusuf, who is believed to have collaborated with the attackers. He has since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their professionalism and bravery, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at restoring peace and security across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
