Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division Garrison and 103 Battalion have recovered four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines and 133 rounds of ammunition hidden by a suspected kidnapping syndicate in a forest in Enugu State.
The weapons were recovered on Sunday, August 10, at Umuchingu Ujenike Forest following information provided by suspected kidnappers earlier arrested by the troops.
The operation followed the rescue of two kidnapped victims and the arrest of a logistics supplier and two suspected kingpins of the criminal syndicate, which has allegedly terrorised communities across Enugu, Abia, Anambra and neighbouring states.
According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the troops recovered the four AK-47 rifles, seven magazines and 133 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the hideout.
The latest recovery comes days after a joint military task force rescued Ofor Amobi, a senior Army officer, and Ikechukwu Onwuanra, a civilian, after a 10-day search-and-rescue operation across forests and communities in Enugu State.
The troops had combed Inyi, Awlaw and Akpugo-Eze forests and adjoining communities in Oji River Local Government Area during the operation.
