Troops of Sector 7, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have arrested three persons following a clash between farmers and herders in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Security sources said the incident occurred in Atuku Kasa Village, where troops responded to a distress call reporting violence between members of the two groups.
According to the sources, the soldiers arrived at the scene in the early hours of Tuesday and discovered two injured farmers, identified as Nicolas Augustine and Dogara Yakubu, who had sustained machete wounds during the confrontation.
The victims were promptly evacuated to the Anglican Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The sources disclosed that three suspects, identified as Muhammadu Adamu, Shehu Husaini and Anas, were apprehended in connection with the incident.
They added that the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to determine the circumstances that led to the clash and the level of involvement of those arrested.
The troops were also said to have taken proactive measures to forestall further violence and maintain peace in the affected community.
Security authorities assured residents that a thorough investigation was underway and that anyone found responsible for the violence would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
Farmers-herders disputes have continued to pose security concerns in parts of Kaduna State, often triggered by disagreements over grazing activities, farmland boundaries and access to water resources.
Authorities have repeatedly called on community leaders and stakeholders to embrace dialogue and peaceful conflict-resolution mechanisms to prevent recurring clashes.
