The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat, while a follow-up search yielded a motorcycle, two camouflage uniforms, a camouflage vest, a jungle hat and other items.

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators and recovered ₦5.3 million in cash during separate operations in Zamfara State.

The operations, conducted on Friday, also led to the recovery of motorcycles, military accoutrements and communication equipment, while troops and a police explosive ordnance disposal team cleared an improvised explosive device (IED) from a major road in Zurmi Local Government Area.

In a statement on Saturday, the task force’s media information officer, Aliyu Danja, said troops of Sector 2 responded to a report of a suspected IED near Jabanda village in Zurmi LGA.

The team located and safely cleared the device before scanning the road and reopening it to motorists.

Danja said the troops encountered terrorists at Birnin Tsaba village in Birnin Magaji LGA while returning from the operation.

According to him, the troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee into the bush.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, a handheld radio and other items.

In Shinkafi LGA, troops working with the mobile police squadron also acted on intelligence regarding terrorist activities around Kwanar Jolof.

The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat, while a follow-up search yielded a motorcycle, two camouflage uniforms, a camouflage vest, a jungle hat and other items.

Meanwhile, troops on patrol near Maradun intercepted a suspected terrorist collaborator and logistics supplier identified as 35-year-old Lawali Dan Alo.

Danja said a search of Dan Alo’s bag, which he claimed contained food items, uncovered ₦5.302 million in cash and a mobile phone.

“Preliminary interrogation showed the suspect was allegedly delivering the funds on behalf of a terrorist leader to another individual, Kasimu Garba, who was arrested at his residence,” Danja said.

He added that both suspects remained in custody for further investigation.

The task force commended the troops for their vigilance and swift response, assuring that aggressive patrols, intelligence-led operations and targeted actions against terrorist networks would continue across the North-West.
