Nigerian Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has clarified that a recent interview clip discussing a past “disrespectful” secret romance does not refer to colleague Wizkid, putting an end to a fresh wave of fan speculation.
In the widely circulated video from her appearance on The Breakfast Club (and earlier comments on platforms like the Joe Budden Podcast), Savage opened up about a previous relationship with an unnamed public figure. She described how the man insisted on keeping their romance private, only for the secrecy to lead to public disrespect.
“He said he didn’t want us to go public... When we go out, I might be talking to other people, but I’m just doing it so people don’t suspect,” Savage recounted. She added that she often witnessed him flirting, laughing, and even touching other women at events while signaling to her that it was all a cover. “It was happening right in front of me and I couldn’t say anything. It’s the disrespect,” she said.
The comments quickly fueled online rumors linking the story to Wizkid, given the pair’s long history of collaborations (*Ma Lo*, Fever), on-screen chemistry, and persistent fan speculation about a romantic involvement. However, Savage directly addressed the assumptions in the interview.
“It’s not Wizkid. I love Wizkid, shout-out to Wizkid, but we weren’t in a relationship,” she stated firmly. She emphasized that her bond with the Essence hitmaker has always been professional and platonic, rooted in mutual respect and music collaborations rather than romance.
Savage noted that public perception often misinterprets close working relationships in the industry. “People see us working together and automatically assume there’s something more. But admiration and friendship don’t equal a relationship,” she added.
The clarification comes amid Savage’s promotion of personal and introspective work, including her album This One Is Personal, which touches on themes of heartbreak, healing, and growth. She has previously addressed other industry relationships and feuds, including a publicized 2023 incident involving Davido, while stressing that she prioritizes respect and her child’s well-being.
Fans and media have long speculated about Savage and Wizkid’s dynamic, particularly after the steamy 2018 Fever video, but both artists have consistently described their connection as friendly and collaborative. Savage recently joined Wizkid on stage after several years, further highlighting their ongoing professional rapport.
As of now, the identity of the celebrity ex referenced in the clip remains undisclosed by Savage. The story continues to generate discussion on social media, with many praising her candor while others call for restraint in speculating about private matters.
