President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economy is on a steady path of growth and recovery, attributing the progress to the financial and fiscal reforms implemented by his administration over the past three years.
The President made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving a delegation from Deloitte Africa, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Ruwayda Redfearn, at the State House, Abuja.
Tinubu said his administration’s reform agenda had laid a solid foundation for long-term economic stability, noting that key fiscal, revenue and tax reforms were beginning to produce positive results despite the initial challenges faced by Nigerians.
“We are following the example of Deloitte’s greatness to change things from the foundation, building the necessary future for our people,” the President said.
Acknowledging that the reforms came with short-term hardships, Tinubu maintained that the measures were necessary to reposition the country’s economy for sustainable growth.
“Yes, reforms are difficult. It has not been a McDonald’s customer relationship but a harvester of good things, if implemented well, and that is what we are about,” he said.
The President thanked Deloitte Africa for its continued interest in Nigeria’s economic transformation and commended the firm’s partnership with the Federal Government.
He said the reforms in the fiscal and revenue sectors would continue to stimulate economic growth, strengthen public institutions and make Nigeria more competitive in the global economy.
“The reforms on revenue will continue to stimulate growth. Some issues require taking bitter medicine, but it is working well. Nigeria is making serious foundational progress,” Tinubu stated.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and the Chairman of the Nigerian Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, who both highlighted the impact of the government’s ongoing reforms.
President Tinubu also called on Deloitte Africa to deepen its contribution to Nigeria’s development by expanding opportunities for youth training, skills development and employment.
Reflecting on his early career in accountancy, the President praised Deloitte’s longstanding reputation for professional excellence.
“Deloitte has a good training programme, and I believe you will continue to reflect that by helping to build the capacity of our young people,” he said.
Earlier, Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele encouraged the global accounting and consulting firm to play a greater role in equipping Nigeria’s growing youth population with the skills required for the modern economy.
In her remarks, Deloitte Africa CEO Ruwayda Redfearn commended the Tinubu administration’s reform efforts and reaffirmed the firm’s readiness to partner with the Federal Government in driving economic transformation.
She disclosed that Deloitte employs more than 500,000 professionals globally, including over 6,000 across Africa, and generated approximately $74 billion in revenue in 2025.
“We are before you to say that we want to serve. We have a local team on the ground that is ready, as well as the global firm, to support you and support your administration as you lead the country,” Redfearn said.
Also speaking, Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte West Africa, Yomi Olugbenro, said the firm’s global experience positioned it to support Nigeria in translating economic reforms into tangible benefits for citizens.
According to him, while the government has laid a strong foundation through its reform programme, greater efforts are now required to ensure the dividends of those reforms reach ordinary Nigerians.
“We believe the foundation has been solidly laid. The bigger work now is how to cascade those reforms further down so that ordinary Nigerians feel the impact. With our global experience supporting countries around the world, Nigeria can benefit immensely, and we stand ready to provide that support whenever called upon,” Olugbenro said.
The visit underscored the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen collaboration with global institutions as it seeks to consolidate ongoing reforms, attract investment, expand employment opportunities and accelerate Nigeria’s economic growth.
