Tinubu Congratulates Adeleke on Osun Election Victory

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the August 15 governorship election as a strong indication that democracy will continue to flourish in Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory.

The President said Adeleke’s re-election confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in his leadership and wished him success as he begins another four-year term.

Tinubu, however, urged the governor to use his victory as an opportunity to unite the people of the state, irrespective of how they voted during the election.

He called on Adeleke to rally the people of Osun towards greater growth, stability and socio-economic development.

“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” the President said.

The President also commended other contestants in the election for what he described as their courage and discipline, saying their participation contributed to the development of Nigeria’s democratic culture.

According to Tinubu, the outcome of the election reflected the will of the people and provided reassurance that democratic governance would continue to thrive in the country.

The President’s reaction comes as stakeholders continue to assess the significance of the Osun governorship election, which attracted considerable political attention ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The election was closely watched amid heightened political competition in the state and wider debates over the conduct of elections, the independence of electoral institutions and the role of security agencies in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Tinubu also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies for what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.

The President’s statement further urged political actors to move beyond the contest and focus on governance and the interests of the people.

Adeleke’s re-election now gives him another four years to pursue his administration’s programmes in Osun, while also placing greater responsibility on his government to consolidate support across political divides.

The outcome is also expected to shape political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly as parties assess the strength of their structures, alliances and strategies following the Osun contest.

For President Tinubu, however, the election represents more than a partisan victory, as he described it as evidence that Nigeria’s democratic process remains capable of producing leaders through the ballot.

The President reiterated his wish for Adeleke’s success and urged all stakeholders to respect the outcome and support efforts aimed at advancing peace, stability and development in Osun State.
