Tinubu Applauds Rescue of 308 Abductees

President Bola Tinubu has commended security agencies for the successful rescue of 308 Nigerians abducted in separate attacks in Kwara and Niger states, describing the operation as a testament to improved intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration.

The rescued victims comprise 163 people kidnapped from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and 145 others abducted in Niger State.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the victims were rescued from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State during a coordinated, intelligence-led operation involving the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force.

The Presidency described the operation as the largest single-day rescue mission carried out by the joint security team.

President Tinubu praised the bravery and professionalism of the security personnel, saying the operation reflected the growing effectiveness of collaboration among the country's security agencies.

"The successful execution of this intelligence-led operation demonstrates the growing efficiency and collaboration among our security services. I commend our gallant men and women in uniform for their bravery and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigerian lives," the President said.

The rescued victims are currently receiving first aid and medical attention at the medical facility in Wawa Cantonment. They will be handed over to the governments of their respective states for rehabilitation and reunification with their families after medical evaluations.

While celebrating the successful rescue, Tinubu directed security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen early warning systems, improve community-based intelligence gathering, and enhance rapid response mechanisms to prevent similar incidents.

He also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to tackling insecurity, protecting vulnerable communities, and restoring lasting peace across the country.
