Three young men from Plateau State have been abducted by suspected terrorists in Kogi State while returning to Jos from Akure, Ondo State, where they had travelled for a business engagement.
The victims, identified as Kweti Jonathan Menje, Habila Sunday, and Samuel, are residents of Jenta Adamu in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to reports, the trio was kidnapped on Monday when armed assailants intercepted the vehicle conveying them and other passengers along their route and took them to an undisclosed location.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Jenta Adamu Central Youth Council (CYC) disclosed that the kidnappers have contacted the victims' families and are demanding a ransom of N10 million for each victim, amounting to N30 million in total. The abductors reportedly threatened to kill the victims if the ransom is not paid within a specified period.
The youth council described the incident as tragic and appealed to security agencies and relevant authorities to take urgent action to secure the victims' safe release.
Part of the statement read: “We received a distressing report that three of our young men from Jenta Adamu, Jos, were kidnapped in Kogi State while returning from Akure, Ondo State, where they had gone for a business trip.
“Information from their families indicates that the victims were abducted by suspected terrorists during their journey home. The kidnappers have since established contact and are demanding N10 million each for their release.
“This unfortunate development has thrown the families, friends, and the entire community into fear and anxiety. We therefore call on the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional rulers, and all relevant stakeholders to intervene urgently and ensure their safe and unconditional release.”
The council also urged members of the public to support ongoing rescue efforts by providing any useful information to security operatives and to keep the victims and their families in their prayers.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
