Soludo Hails Tinubu’s Infrastructure Push, Says South-East Projects Will Help Heal Civil War Divisions
Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a deliberate effort to rebuild the South-East through strategic infrastructure projects, saying the administration's interventions could help heal the lingering scars of the Nigerian civil war.
In a post on his X account on Wednesday, Soludo disclosed that Tinubu had approved the design and procurement of two major federal highways linking Anambra with Kogi, Imo and Abia states, describing the approvals as a historic milestone for the region.
According to the governor, the road projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity across the South-East, South-South and North-Central geopolitical zones while stimulating economic growth.
"Certainly, President Tinubu has a date with history, and even more so with the South-East," Soludo wrote.
"He continues to demonstrate his avowed commitment to orchestrating the reconstruction of the South-East, thereby finally healing the wounds of the Civil War. There are several unprecedented, foundational infrastructural rebirths going on in the South-East at the moment."
Soludo revealed that he met with President Tinubu on July 1 to discuss critical infrastructure needs in the region. He said the Minister of Works, David Umahi, contacted him the following day to request details of priority road projects requiring federal intervention.
The governor said he submitted two proposals on July 3: the dualisation of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road linking Anambra and Kogi states, and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road, which connects Anambra, Imo and Abia states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
According to Soludo, the Minister of Works informed him on July 15 that President Tinubu had approved both projects for design and procurement.
Describing the roads as "critical game-changers," the governor said the projects would deepen regional integration, enhance interstate commerce and unlock new economic opportunities across the affected states.
"The man who tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos is certainly redefining politics, and the South-East won't be the same again," he said.
Soludo added that the approvals underscored the value of constructive engagement and collaboration in governance.
"For me personally, this is why politics makes sense to me: working collaboratively and building alliances to achieve concrete results that improve the lives of the people," he said.
The governor also expressed appreciation to the President for approving the projects, saying history would remember Tinubu favourably for the intervention.
