Shettima Begins First Leave Since Taking Office

Vice President Kashim Shettima will commence a two-week leave on Thursday, August 6, following approval by President Bola Tinubu, marking his first official leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, the leave will be devoted to study, reflection and intellectual renewal aimed at enhancing the Vice President's capacity for national service.

The statement said the break would also provide Shettima with an opportunity to review the Tinubu administration's ongoing programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the next phase of implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since taking office, Shettima has played a key role in coordinating and supervising strategic government initiatives, particularly in economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.

As Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), he has led deliberations involving the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other senior government officials on policies affecting the economy and citizens' welfare.

The Vice President has also represented President Tinubu at several international and regional engagements, where he advanced Nigeria's positions on economic integration, investment, climate action, peace, security and sustainable development.

The Presidency said Shettima remains committed to supporting the administration's agenda and will return to his official duties after the two-week leave with renewed energy and focus.
