The House of Representatives has summoned the nation's service chiefs and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to appear before lawmakers over the worsening security situation across the country.
The resolution was passed during Tuesday's plenary session following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Sulaiman Gumi, who represents the Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State.
Lawmakers expressed concern over the increasing incidents of insecurity, including banditry, terrorism, kidnappings, and other violent crimes affecting several parts of the country. The House said the appearance of the security chiefs and the NSA is aimed at obtaining a comprehensive briefing on ongoing security operations and strategies being implemented to address the challenges.
The lawmakers also stressed the need for stronger and more coordinated efforts by security agencies to safeguard lives and property and restore public confidence in the country's security architecture.
The summoned officials are expected to provide updates on measures being taken to tackle the growing security threats and outline plans to improve security nationwide.
