PRP Demands Tinubu’s Resignation Over Escalating Insecurity, Rising Abductions

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, citing what it described as the Federal Government’s failure to guarantee the safety and security of Nigerians amid worsening insecurity across the country.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s National Chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said the President had failed in his foremost constitutional responsibility of protecting citizens from violent crimes and insecurity.
According to Baba-Ahmed, the security situation has deteriorated under the current administration, with increasing cases of kidnappings, abductions and violent attacks affecting Nigerians across all regions of the country.
“It is now beyond any doubt that President Bola Tinubu has failed woefully in discharging his prime responsibility as Nigerian President, which is to secure the Nigerian citizen,” he said.
The PRP chairman argued that threats to national security have expanded rather than diminished, stressing that no part of the country can currently be considered safe.
“From generals to toddlers, from Bama to Badagry, no Nigerian is safe under this leadership,” the statement read. “It is no longer the case that only certain parts of the country have been surrendered to criminals. Today, Nigerians across the nation are exposed to violent criminals who continue to exploit the nation’s security weaknesses.”
Baba-Ahmed expressed concern over the increasing targeting of schoolchildren by criminal groups, warning against normalising insecurity and violence.
“Schoolchildren have joined the long list of soft targets, and the nation appears to be drifting towards accepting this situation as normal. We must not submit to the weakness of leaders or the exploits of criminals,” he stated.
He further accused the President of centralising enormous powers around the presidency without effectively deploying them to safeguard lives and property.
“This is not how Nigerians should live. Our President has failed the nation, and there is no evidence that he can improve on his current record. He has amassed all the power in the country around him, yet he has failed to use it to protect and defend Nigerians,” Baba-Ahmed said.
The PRP leader maintained that in many democratic societies, leaders facing similar circumstances would be compelled to take responsibility for governance failures.
He argued that Nigerians cannot afford to wait until the 2027 general elections before seeking solutions to the country’s security challenges.
“There is nothing democratic about allowing incompetent leadership to remain in office while citizens continue to suffer the consequences of worsening insecurity,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed therefore called on Nigerians to unite and demand accountability from the government, insisting that the country urgently needs effective leadership capable of tackling its growing security crisis.
