The Oyo State Police Command has uncovered the alleged involvement of a personal assistant linked to the family of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, in the kidnapping of the minister's sister and her twin sons in Ibadan.
The command's spokesperson, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed that preliminary investigations pointed to possible insider collaboration in the planning and execution of the abduction.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly provided information and support that aided the kidnappers in identifying and targeting the victims. Authorities described the development as a troubling indication of the increasing use of individuals close to victims by criminal groups to facilitate kidnapping operations.
Adelabu's sister and her twin sons were abducted in Ibadan but were later rescued following a coordinated security operation. During the operation, some suspects linked to the crime were arrested, while others were reportedly killed in a gun battle with security operatives.
CSP Ayanlade said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals connected to the kidnapping syndicate.
"The command is intensifying efforts to uncover the full network behind this operation and ensure that everyone involved is brought to justice," he stated.
The police also assured residents of their commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state, noting that insider collaboration has become an emerging tactic employed by criminal gangs.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to the alleged involvement of an individual believed to have close ties to the victims' family, raising fresh concerns about security and trust within personal and professional circles.
Authorities said additional details would be released as investigations progress.
