Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered ₦2.2 million believed to be ransom proceeds, alongside a firearm and other exhibits, during a follow-up operation linked to the rescue of an abducted victim.

The operation, carried out by the command's Anti-Kidnapping Unit, followed sustained intelligence-led efforts to dismantle a kidnapping syndicate operating within the state.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim was abducted on June 11, 2026, at Ogbe Village in Ogun State.

He said the command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping Unit, deploying intelligence assets and tactical operatives to secure the victim's release and track down the perpetrators.

The police disclosed that sustained surveillance and operational pressure forced the kidnappers to release the victim unharmed on June 18, after which security operatives intensified efforts to apprehend members of the criminal gang.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives later traced the suspects to their hideout within the state.

According to the statement, the suspects opened fire upon sighting the police team in an attempt to evade arrest, prompting a gun battle.

"During the exchange of gunfire, two of the suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries," the statement said.

A search of the scene led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, one expended cartridge, a mobile phone and ₦2.2 million in cash, which investigators suspect to be proceeds of kidnapping and other criminal activities.

The command said investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, while efforts had been intensified to dismantle the remaining network of the gang.

Commending the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for what he described as its gallantry, professionalism and operational effectiveness, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said the success of the operation underscored the command's resolve to rid Ogun State of kidnappers and other violent criminals.

He assured residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing and tactical operations to safeguard lives and property across the state.

The commissioner also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to security agencies to strengthen the fight against crime.
