Police Intercept Truck Laden With Military Camouflage, Suspected Illicit Cargo Bound for South-East
The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a truck allegedly transporting military camouflage uniforms and 80 cartons of suspected illicit substances to Nigeria's South-East, arresting three suspects in connection with the operation.
The State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed the development during a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, saying the vehicle was intercepted along the Lekki-Epe corridor while attempting to leave the state.
According to the police chief, preliminary investigations indicate that the truck was allegedly being used to convey military camouflage uniforms to the South-East, although authorities are still working to determine the origin of the items and the identities of those behind the shipment.
"We have commenced a comprehensive investigation to establish the source, ownership and intended recipients of the recovered items, as well as determine the level of involvement of the arrested suspects and identify other persons connected with the operation," Fatai said.
He confirmed that three suspects are currently in police custody, while further investigations are ongoing.
Police Rescue 38 Foreign Nationals in Epe
In a separate operation, the police said they rescued 38 foreign nationals from possible mob action in the Epe area of Lagos State.
The group comprises 14 nationals of Chad, nine from Burkina Faso, four each from Benin and Mali, two each from Togo and Cameroon, and one Ghanaian.
According to Fatai, preliminary profiling revealed that 20 of the individuals entered Nigeria through unauthorised routes, while the remaining 18 possessed valid ECOWAS travel documents.
He said the matter has been handed over to the appropriate authorities, including the Nigeria Immigration Service and the respective embassies of the affected countries, for further action in line with existing immigration and diplomatic procedures.
