Oyebamiji Accepts Defeat, Raises Alarm Over Attacks

“At the same time, I wish to alert the State Government and security agents to the growing trend of hostility and violence against our members and supporters,”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has accepted his defeat, saying he respects the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Oyebamiji stated this in a message posted on his X account on Tuesday, three days after the August 15 governorship election.

The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner after polling 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji secured 444,815 votes.

Reacting to the outcome, Oyebamiji thanked APC supporters and party leaders across the state for their commitment to his campaign and support for the alternative vision he presented to voters.

“Although, we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” he said.

He said although the election and campaign had ended, the issues and values that shaped his campaign remained relevant.

“The campaign has come to an end and the election is over, but the values and causes we championed are alive. We would continue to work for effective, inclusive and rapid development of our dear Osun,” Oyebamiji said.

He urged his supporters to remain peaceful, stay engaged in their communities and continue working for the collective interest of the state.

However, the APC candidate raised concerns over alleged attacks on members and supporters of the party following the election.

“At the same time, I wish to alert the State Government and security agents to the growing trend of hostility and violence against our members and supporters,” he said.

Oyebamiji called on the state government and security agencies to address the alleged attacks and ensure the safety of residents across the state.
