A viral photograph circulating on X on Wednesday showed Eniade covered in blood, with reports alleging that several other people were injured during the incident and vehicles damaged.
The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has allegedly attacked the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo-Otin Federal Constituency, Francis Eniade, two days before the state’s governorship election.
A viral photograph circulating on X on Wednesday showed Eniade covered in blood, with reports alleging that several other people were injured during the incident and vehicles damaged.
An X user, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, wrote: “Speaker Wale Egbedun just attacked Eniade. Dozens were injured, and several cars were destroyed.”
The allegation had not been independently verified as of the time of filing this report, while the Osun State Police Command was yet to confirm the incident.
The development comes amid rising political tension in the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Egbedun, who is reportedly backing the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, had earlier called for the arrest of Senator Francis Fadahunsi and Eniade over alleged inciting remarks.
Fadahunsi appeared before the Osun State Police Command on Wednesday in connection with an alleged statement attributed to him calling for the killing of Accord Party supporters.
Governor Adeleke is seeking re-election and is expected to face his strongest challenge from the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Dr Francis Ajala, whose candidacy was cleared on Wednesday.
With the election only days away, the alleged attack has further heightened concerns over political violence and tensions in the state.
