One Injured as Suspected IED Explodes at Mushin Market, Police Launch Investigation

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) detonated at the Shoe Materials Market in the Mushin area of Lagos on Monday, leaving one person injured.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr. Fatai Tijani, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the scene of the incident. He said officers, including personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, were immediately deployed after reports of the explosion reached the command.

According to Tijani, the affected area was swiftly cordoned off to enable EOD experts conduct a comprehensive security sweep.

"We received reports of an explosion and immediately dispatched our EOD unit to the scene. The area was secured and thoroughly searched," he said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the explosive device had been concealed beneath the passenger side of a vehicle and detonated when the vehicle was started.

The police commissioner said one person sustained injuries in the blast and was taken to hospital for treatment. He added that the victim is in stable condition.

Tijani further disclosed that a thorough search of the vicinity did not uncover any additional explosive devices.

He assured traders and residents that the situation had been brought under control and urged members of the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities as investigations into the incident continue.
