Oluremi Tinubu Launches APC Grassroots Campaign Group, Donates Vehicles to Women Leaders Ahead of 2027

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the Tinubu Torchbearers (TTB), a new grassroots mobilisation platform designed to promote the policies and programmes of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and strengthen support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The initiative was unveiled on Wednesday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where APC women leaders, party officials and stakeholders from across the country gathered.

Addressing participants, the First Lady called on women within the party to champion the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda by engaging communities and educating citizens on ongoing government reforms.

“Women are the heartbeat of our communities. I charge every Tinubu Torchbearer to tell our story, clearly, respectfully and relentlessly,” she said.

According to her, the Tinubu Torchbearers movement is rooted in service, patriotism and collective responsibility, with women expected to play a leading role in grassroots advocacy and mobilisation.

Mrs Tinubu said the administration’s reforms in agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education, security and job creation require greater public engagement to ensure Nigerians understand their objectives and long-term benefits.

“We did not come to occupy offices for namesake. President Tinubu set out to reposition Nigeria with bold reforms,” she stated.

As part of the launch, the First Lady announced the donation of brand-new vehicles to APC women leaders in Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Osun and Oyo states to support their mobilisation activities.

“These vehicles are for you as individuals. Register them in your name. They are not party property,” she told the beneficiaries.

The donation has attracted public attention, with some critics questioning the timing of the gesture amid concerns over insecurity, rising cases of kidnapping and economic hardship in parts of the country.

Speaking at the event, APC National Women Leader, Dr. Mary Alile Idele, described the Tinubu Torchbearers as a strategic platform that would deepen grassroots engagement across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. She said the group would focus on voter education, advocacy and civic participation.

Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, highlighted ongoing reforms by the ministry, including efforts to strengthen child protection, curb child marriage and expand economic opportunities for women.

She also disclosed that a proposed universal cash grant programme for children is currently undergoing technical review and design.

Representing APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the party’s Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr. Benjamin Nwoye, said the Tinubu Torchbearers would serve as an important vehicle for increasing public awareness and support for government policies.

The launch comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum, with political parties and support groups intensifying efforts to strengthen their grassroots structures nationwide.
