Popular Nigerian social media content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command following allegations of rape and physical assault that reportedly contributed to the death of a 20-year-old woman, Favor Agbro.
According to a statement by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the arrest stems from a petition received by the command. The deceased had traveled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after Ogbonna allegedly invited her with promises of training in content creation—a program he promoted on his social media platforms.
Police allege that upon her arrival, Ogbonna lodged her in a hotel where he purportedly raped and physically assaulted her. The victim reportedly returned home traumatized, confided in her parents, and recorded a video detailing her ordeal and emotional distress before ingesting a toxic substance in an apparent suicide attempt. She later died despite medical efforts to save her.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to launch a comprehensive investigation. Ogbonna, currently in custody, has reportedly made statements during preliminary interrogation as investigations continue.
The case has sparked significant online discussion, with many expressing outrage over the allegations involving a content creator who built a following through social media. As of July 15, 2026, details remain under investigation, and no formal charges have been publicly detailed beyond the arrest.
This incident highlights broader concerns about safety, consent, and the responsibilities of influencers who interact with fans and aspiring creators, particularly young women. Authorities have urged caution regarding online invitations and interactions.
Note: The allegations are serious but remain subject to ongoing police investigation and the judicial process. Ogbonna has not been convicted of any crime at this time. Presumption of innocence applies until proven otherwise in a court of law.
The tragic outcome for Favor Agbro has drawn condolences from many and calls for justice. Updates will depend on further official statements from the Delta State Police Command.
