According to a statement from the NDC, the meeting also centred on the importance of ensuring that future elections are free, fair and credible, reflecting the genuine will of the Nigerian people.

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, on Thursday held talks with the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, focusing on Nigeria's democratic future, economic challenges and the need to strengthen key institutions.

According to a statement from the NDC, the meeting also centred on the importance of ensuring that future elections are free, fair and credible, reflecting the genuine will of the Nigerian people.

The discussions come as Montgomery prepares to conclude his diplomatic assignment in Nigeria next month after serving as the United Kingdom's top envoy to the country.

Obi commended the High Commissioner for his contributions to strengthening diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, describing his tenure as one marked by constructive engagement and support for Nigeria's democratic and economic development.

He thanked Montgomery for his cooperation and friendship throughout his time in Nigeria and wished him success in his next diplomatic assignment.

Obi also expressed confidence that the longstanding bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom would continue to deepen in the years ahead.
