The warning comes months after the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) issued a similar alert over fake recruitment offers.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has warned Nigerians against fake employment letters generated using artificial intelligence (AI) and circulated in the name of the commission.
The commission, in a statement on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Eniola Akinkuotu, said it had received reports of criminal elements defrauding unsuspecting members of the public with fictitious job offers.
According to the commission, the fraudsters demand money from victims under the guise of securing employment for them at NUPRC.
NUPRC said it had reported the activities to law enforcement agencies for investigation, urging members of the public to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to the scheme.
The commission stressed that there is currently no ongoing recruitment exercise at NUPRC.
It added that whenever recruitment is approved, the process would be conducted transparently and strictly in accordance with applicable laws and government regulations.
The warning comes months after the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) issued a similar alert over fake recruitment offers.
In February, NMDPRA clarified that it was not conducting recruitment at any level, warning that fake recruitment syndicates could be behind the fraudulent schemes.
