The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kaduna State has intensified its crackdown on drug traffickers and dealers, arresting 82 suspects and seizing more than two tonnes of illicit substances across the state in May 2026.

The agency also dismantled 83 drug joints, secured 14 convictions and intercepted 2,376 rounds of live ammunition during the period under review.

The Kaduna State Command of the agency disclosed this in a statement issued by its spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sani Garba.

According to the statement, a total of 82 suspects, comprising 79 males and three females, were arrested in various operations carried out across the state.

The command said operatives recovered 2,038.524 kilograms of assorted illicit drugs, with Cannabis Sativa accounting for 2,007.571 kilograms of the total seizures.

Other substances recovered included psychotropic drugs such as Diazepam, Rohypnol, Codeine and Tramadol, as well as hard drugs like Cocaine and Methamphetamine.

“In a related development, NDLEA operatives intercepted 2,376 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. The suspects and exhibits have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation,” the statement said.

The command noted that it also strengthened its prosecution drive during the month, resulting in the conviction of 14 offenders, while 19 suspects were arraigned before various courts.

Several other cases, it added, are still under investigation.

Beyond enforcement operations, the agency said it sustained efforts to reduce drug abuse through counselling, treatment and rehabilitation programmes.

The command disclosed that nine clients successfully completed rehabilitation programmes within the period, while six new clients were admitted for treatment.

It added that 19 other clients are currently undergoing rehabilitation, while brief intervention services were provided to 20 individuals battling substance abuse.

The statement quoted the command as commending officers and men of the agency for their commitment and professionalism in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

It reiterated NDLEA’s resolve to sustain ongoing operations aimed at disrupting drug networks and reducing the prevalence of illicit drug use across Kaduna State.
