Mamuda Group, Yaz Laundry Launch ‘A Cleaner Nigeria’ Initiative

ABUJA – The President of the Prime Environment Cleaners Network Association, Barrister Yakubu Muhammed Yazeed, has rejected the notion that Nigerians are unhygienic, insisting that the country’s sanitation challenges are driven more by inadequate public education than poor personal habits.

Yazeed made the assertion during the unveiling of the “A Cleaner Nigeria” partnership between Mamuda Group and Yaz Laundry and Cleaning Services in Abuja, where both organisations announced a series of initiatives aimed at promoting environmental hygiene, empowering young people and supporting vulnerable households.

Speaking at the event, Yazeed said the partnership goes beyond cleaning homes, describing it as a national movement designed to change attitudes towards hygiene through education, community engagement and sustainable action.

“Nigerians are clean people. The real challenge is that many people have not received proper education on what true cleanliness entails. This partnership is about education as much as it is about cleaning,” he said.

According to him, the initiative seeks to deepen public awareness of proper sanitation practices while complementing government efforts to improve environmental cleanliness across the country.

He explained that the private sector has a critical role to play in supporting government waste management and sanitation programmes through meaningful corporate social responsibility initiatives.

“Our role is to support what government is already doing. Government has its own waste management programmes, but the private sector also has a responsibility to contribute,” he added.

Representatives of Mamuda Group, Naseem Abdulkareem described the collaboration as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to improving public health through cleaner communities.

The company said the partnership brings together Mamuda Group’s range of household products—including Popcola, Too Clean and Mama Joy—with the expertise of Yaz Laundry and Cleaning Services to transform how Nigerians experience cleanliness, hygiene and economic opportunity.

According to the partners, the collaboration will be implemented through four major initiatives under the “A Cleaner Nigeria” campaign.

The first initiative, “Spreading Happiness Through Cleaning,” will provide free professional cleaning services to 10,000 homes belonging to less-privileged families, beginning with residents of Abuja before expanding nationwide. Beneficiaries will also receive Mamuda cleaning products to help maintain clean and healthy living environments.

The second initiative is the Cleaning Academy Support Programme, through which Mamuda Group will supply cleaning products and training materials to students enrolled in the Cleaning Academy. The programme is aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical skills and encouraging entrepreneurship in the cleaning and laundry industry.

Yazeed disclosed that the association has already trained more than 1,000 people in professional cleaning and has extended similar capacity-building programmes to Ghana and Kenya. He said the cleaning industry has evolved into a viable profession capable of creating sustainable employment opportunities for young people.

“We want youths to understand that when a place is dirty, it is also an opportunity to create value and earn a legitimate income. Cleaning has become a highly professional industry,” he said.

As part of the partnership, the organisations also unveiled Project Clean Abuja, a bi-monthly environmental sanitation campaign that will see volunteers wearing co-branded jackets embark on community clean-up exercises across the Federal Capital Territory while educating residents on proper hygiene and environmental responsibility.

The partners further announced that Mamuda Group will serve as the headline sponsor of the Cleaner Forum, scheduled to hold in Abuja on August 20. The forum will bring together stakeholders to promote hygiene, dignity and environmental sustainability through storytelling, public engagement and knowledge sharing.

The organisations said all the initiatives are designed to advance a common vision of building a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally responsible Nigeria.

Yazeed called on government agencies, corporate organisations, development partners and residents to support the campaign, stressing that achieving lasting environmental sanitation requires collective responsibility, continuous public education and sustained community participation.
