A leaked internal memo from the Department of State Services (DSS) has warned of planned Boko Haram attacks targeting communities in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State and Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to the intelligence report obtained by reporters, the planned assaults are believed to be connected to the collapse of an alleged ceasefire arrangement between the terrorist group and the governments of the two states.
The memo indicates that the insurgents are planning coordinated attacks aimed at abducting senior government officials, councillors, traditional rulers, pastors and residents in the affected communities.
A security source familiar with the report confirmed the intelligence, saying security agencies have been placed on alert over the threat.
The leaked memo stated that intelligence gathered by the DSS revealed that Boko Haram had already deployed surveillance operatives to monitor targets ahead of the planned attacks.
Among those reportedly being targeted is the district head of Michika and his son, who resides with him.
In response to the threat, the DSS urged military personnel, other security agencies and forest guards to strengthen surveillance and reinforce security measures across the affected local government areas to prevent the planned attacks and protect residents.
