"The project is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, July 28, for a period of two weeks. Consequently, motorists should expect partial traffic disruptions around the Kara axis during the repair period," the statement said.
The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the commencement of a two-week rehabilitation of the Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, warning motorists to expect partial disruptions as repair works begin on Tuesday.
The project, to be executed by the Federal Ministry of Works, involves the replacement of expansion joints on the bridge to improve its structural integrity and ensure safer travel for road users.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Bolanle Ogunlola, motorists were informed that the existing four-lane carriageway would be temporarily reduced to two lanes along a 1.5-kilometre stretch to provide a safe working area for engineers.
"The project is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, July 28, for a period of two weeks. Consequently, motorists should expect partial traffic disruptions around the Kara axis during the repair period," the statement said.
The government urged commuters to exercise patience, obey traffic regulations, and cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor throughout the duration of the works.
According to Ogunlola, moderate traffic congestion is anticipated around the Fatgbems Turn as some motorists make U-turns or divert to alternative routes to avoid delays. However, traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems Turn is expected to remain largely unaffected.
She advised motorists to plan their trips ahead, consider alternative routes where feasible, and adhere to official traffic advisories to minimize delays.
The state government said the rehabilitation is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the safety and durability of critical road infrastructure, while thanking residents and motorists for their understanding and cooperation during the repair period.
