The Kaduna State Government has warned vandals of public infrastructure to desist from destroying government assets or face prosecution, following the damage to a bridge linking Rabah Road in Kaduna North Local Government Area with Rigasa in Igabi Local Government Area.
The warning came when the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Sule Shuaibu, inspected the damaged bridge to assess the extent of the destruction.
Shuaibu described the vandalism as a criminal act that undermines public safety and frustrates government efforts to provide essential infrastructure for residents.
He said the administration of Governor Uba Sani would not tolerate the destruction of public facilities, stressing that security agencies had been directed to identify and arrest those behind the act.
"The government will ensure that anyone found vandalising public infrastructure is brought to justice. We cannot allow a few individuals to sabotage investments meant to improve the lives of our people," he said.
The commissioner urged residents to support government efforts by reporting suspicious activities around public facilities, saying community participation was crucial in safeguarding infrastructure.
He noted that roads, bridges and other public assets were built with taxpayers' money and should be protected by all citizens.
Shuaibu assured residents that the government would continue to strengthen surveillance around critical infrastructure across the state to prevent further incidents of vandalism and ensure the safety of lives and property.
