The Kaduna State Police Command has arraigned 24 suspects before a Magistrate Court sitting at NDA Junction in Kaduna over the mob killing of a woman in Maraban Jos area of the state.
The suspects were charged with criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, mischief, destruction of public and police property, and culpable homicide.
Police said the prosecution followed investigations into the June 21 incident in which the victim was allegedly attacked and killed by a violent mob after she was removed from police custody.
According to the command, the matter came up for mention before the court and was adjourned to July 21, 2026, for further hearing.
The court ordered that all the defendants be remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the command condemned mob action and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.
The police said anyone found engaging in jungle justice would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The command also disclosed that more than 100 additional suspects are still under investigation over their alleged involvement in the incident, adding that those found culpable would also be charged to court.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Muhammad Rabiu, assured residents that the command remained committed to ensuring justice for the victim and sustaining law and order across the state.
He urged members of the public to channel complaints and criminal allegations through lawful means rather than resorting to violence.
