Jabi Lake Waterfront to get new leisure, tourism facilities by December 2026

Plans are underway to expand leisure and tourism activities around Jabi Lake in Abuja following the commencement of a phased waterfront development project expected to open its first phase in December 2026.

The project, being undertaken by Akida Hills, includes a mix of recreational and entertainment facilities, with developers proposing a dancing musical fountain among the attractions to be introduced at the site.

According to information released by the company, the development will occupy a 3.36-hectare section within the wider Jabi Lake waterfront area and forms part of efforts to increase public use of the district for tourism and leisure purposes.

Founder of Akida Hills, Kayode Bamisile, said the initiative is intended to support destination development and encourage greater visitor activity around the lake.

He said the company’s objective is to create a waterfront environment that attracts residents and visitors while contributing to economic activity and employment opportunities.

The first phase of the project is expected to include leisure and dining facilities, water-based activities, organised recreational programming and seasonal attractions.

Developers said the proposed dancing musical fountain would serve as a major feature of the site and is designed to combine water displays, lighting and music as part of the visitor experience.

Additional components of the development are expected to be delivered in subsequent phases.

Stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality sector have continued to identify destination-based infrastructure and public recreational investments as areas with potential to strengthen Abuja’s profile as a leisure and tourism destination.

Construction activities are expected to continue over the coming months, with further details on programming and partnerships to be announced before the projected launch date.
