ICPC Questions Gbajabiamila Over Alleged Role in PFIPC Scandal
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has questioned Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu, over his alleged involvement in the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Gbajabiamila appeared before investigators at the anti-graft agency's headquarters on Monday in compliance with an invitation issued as part of the ongoing probe into the purported establishment and activities of the controversial council.
Confirming the development, Jiti Ogunye, counsel to the president's chief of staff, said his client fully cooperated with investigators, gave a statement, answered questions and subsequently returned to his official duties.
"In full cooperation with the ICPC, acting as directed by the President of Nigeria, I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, responded to the invitation of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and appeared at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the 'PFIPC' fake agency, among others," Ogunye said in a statement.
"My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly, and has returned to his duty post."
President Tinubu had, on July 2, directed the ICPC to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the PFIPC controversy following concerns over the emergence and operations of the body.
Announcing the directive, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the president instructed the commission to conclude its investigation and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.
The ICPC has yet to publicly disclose details of its findings or indicate whether any charges will arise from the investigation.
