'I Still Wish to Wake Up and See My Dad' – Emotional Father's Day Tributes Touch Hearts

As millions of families across Nigeria and around the world celebrated Father's Day on Sunday, social media was awash with touching tributes, heartfelt prayers, and emotional reflections honouring fathers for their immeasurable sacrifices, unwavering love, and lasting impact on their families.

The annual celebration once again underscored the vital role fathers play in society—not only as providers but also as protectors, mentors, teachers, and pillars of strength. It also served as a reminder that behind every father's courageous exterior lies a man who faces challenges, battles personal struggles, and carries enormous responsibilities, often without recognition.

For many men, fatherhood is a lifelong commitment that demands sacrifice, resilience, patience, and unconditional love. They work tirelessly to ensure their children are fed, educated, protected, and given opportunities for a brighter future. Despite the pressures of providing for their families, many fathers continue to offer guidance, emotional support, discipline, and encouragement, shaping the lives of their children through both words and actions.

This year's Father's Day saw thousands of young people flood social media with photographs and videos celebrating their fathers. Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp were filled with messages expressing gratitude, admiration, and love. Many described their fathers as their heroes and role models, while others offered heartfelt prayers, asking God to bless them with long life, good health, wisdom, and continued strength.

However, for countless others whose fathers are no longer alive, the day was filled with mixed emotions. Instead of sharing new memories, they celebrated the lives of the men who had shaped them before passing away.

One of the most touching tributes came from a young lady, Deborah Botanda, who lost her father to the cold hands of death a few years ago. Her emotional message resonated with many people grieving the loss of their own fathers.

Deborah confessed that not a single day passes without thinking about her father. She said she still wishes she could wake up every morning and see him again, describing the pain of his absence as one of the greatest challenges she has had to endure.

Despite the heartbreak, she expressed gratitude to God for giving her the strength to remain standing through the difficult years since his passing.

Remembering the kind of father he was, Deborah described him as a loving, caring, and considerate man who devoted himself completely to the happiness and well-being of his family.

"He did everything to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He was sweet, and he played with his children. He always made us feel loved and cared for," she wrote.

Although death separated them physically, Deborah said his memory continues to inspire her every day.

"Though he is gone, he will forever remain in my heart. I love you, Dad. I will keep celebrating you forever," she added.

Her heartfelt tribute echoed the feelings of many people who continue to cherish the memories of fathers they have lost, proving that death cannot erase the love, lessons, and legacy left behind by a devoted parent.

As Father's Day 2026 draws to a close, the celebration serves as a powerful reminder that fathers deserve appreciation not only for their strength but also for their vulnerability, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment to their families. Whether they are still present to receive warm embraces and heartfelt prayers or are remembered through cherished memories, fathers remain an irreplaceable part of every family, leaving behind a legacy of love that endures for generations.
