Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has disclosed that security agencies successfully thwarted an alleged plot to bomb the Ondo State Government House following intelligence reports that exposed the plan before it could be executed.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the governor said the operation was one of several major security breakthroughs recorded in the state in recent months.
Aiyedatiwa explained that security agencies received intelligence about three to four months ago indicating that a group of youths were allegedly planning an attack on the seat of government.
According to him, the suspects initially checked into a hotel before relocating to a rented apartment, where they allegedly continued preparations for the operation.
Acting on the intelligence, a joint team comprising police officers and operatives of the Amotekun Corps raided the location, arrested the suspects and recovered items believed to be connected to the planned attack.
“Following intelligence reports, the police and Amotekun moved in, raided the location, arrested the suspects, and they remain in custody,” the governor said.
He noted that investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the alleged plot, stressing that the incident highlights the critical role of intelligence gathering in preventing security threats.
Aiyedatiwa said many successful security operations often go unnoticed because attacks are prevented before they occur.
“So much work is being done. Security is one responsibility that leaders carry that is not so visible to everybody. It is only when there is a lapse that it will look as if the government has not been doing enough. We have been doing so much,” he stated.
The governor added that governors in the South-West region have continued to deepen collaboration on security through intelligence sharing and coordinated efforts with regional security outfits, including the Amotekun Corps.
Aiyedatiwa’s disclosure came as he welcomed the conviction of four individuals linked to the June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, describing the judgment as a triumph for justice and the rule of law.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through improved surveillance, proactive intelligence gathering and stronger collaboration among security agencies across the state.
