“Pick an opportunity, understand it, explain it creatively and help someone discover something that could change their life,” the minister said.

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has unveiled the FMYD Youth Opportunities Content Challenge, an initiative designed to help young Nigerians discover and access government-backed opportunities through creative digital content.
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed this in a statement issued to commemorate International Youth Day 2026, themed “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
Olawande said the challenge would encourage young Nigerians to use their creativity and social media platforms to inform others about opportunities capable of improving their lives.
He stressed that participants were not expected to praise the ministry, but to identify an opportunity, understand it and explain it creatively to other young Nigerians.
“Pick an opportunity, understand it, explain it creatively and help someone discover something that could change their life,” the minister said.
He added that full details of the challenge, including guidelines, categories, timelines and prizes, would be announced shortly.
According to Olawande, this year’s theme reflects the Nigerian experience, noting that although young people come from different communities, cultures, educational backgrounds and circumstances, they share common aspirations for opportunities, success, innovation and a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
The minister said the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was translating those aspirations into action through various youth-focused interventions.
He disclosed that 239,726 young Nigerians had gained digital, employability and other practical skills through the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA).
He also listed NiYA StartUp, YouthCred, the Youth Agricultural Land Trust Fund, the Presidential Metering Initiative and the Nigerian Youth Help Desk among initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities and support for young Nigerians.
Olawande further highlighted ongoing efforts to reform the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), describing the exercise as the first comprehensive reform of the scheme since its establishment 53 years ago.
He said the interventions were intended to ensure that young Nigerians could experience the impact of government programmes in practical ways.
The minister urged young Nigerians to believe in themselves, continue learning, develop useful skills, use technology responsibly and create solutions to societal challenges.
He also called on youths to uphold integrity, reject violence, promote peace and unity, and remain committed to Nigeria’s development.
“Our contexts may be different and our experiences may differ, but our hopes for a better future are the same. Together, we can turn those hopes into progress for our dear country,” Olawande said.
