The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested more than 20 suspects during a raid on a short-let apartment complex in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, as part of its ongoing crackdown on suspected financial crimes.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Monday, July 27, at Mariton Apartments, located on Plot 30, QMB Road, Ikate, Lekki.
A senior EFCC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly, said the raid was based on credible intelligence and that investigations remain ongoing.
"The operation was intelligence-driven. A number of suspects were arrested, and investigations are continuing. We are profiling those arrested and examining items recovered during the operation. Further details will be made public at the appropriate time," the official said.
Sources familiar with the operation said investigators recovered items considered relevant to the probe, although the Commission has yet to disclose the identities of those arrested or the specific offences being investigated.
The sources added that operatives are analysing the recovered materials and screening the suspects to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
Residents and operators in the area also reported a noticeable decline in patronage at the apartment complex following the operation.
As of press time, the EFCC had not announced any charges, maintaining that investigations into the raid were still in progress.
