EFCC Detains Peter Obi Supporters After Abuja Invitation, Sparks Questions Over Probe
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained two supporters of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, after they honoured an invitation by the anti-graft agency in Abuja.
The individuals, identified as Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, and Peter Akah, also known as Randy Peter, reportedly remained in EFCC custody several hours after presenting themselves at the commission's office on Wednesday.
The development was disclosed late Wednesday by Esther Umoh, Obi's personal photographer, in a post on X.
According to Umoh, the duo voluntarily honoured the EFCC's invitation but had not been released as of the time she made the post.
"@MamaPee__ and @Peter4Nigeria were invited by the EFCC in Abuja, and as respectful citizens, they honored the invitation today. But as I type this, they are yet to be released by the commission," she wrote.
A review of the X accounts belonging to Mama Pee and Randy Peter showed that their last public posts were made on Tuesday. The posts commented on allegations surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) scam involving the self-acclaimed Director-General of the council, Adeniyi Adeyemi, and President Bola Tinubu's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The EFCC had not disclosed the reason for inviting or continuing to detain the two individuals as of the time of filing this report.
Peter Obi had also not publicly commented on the development.
