Nigerian social media sensation and content creator Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has been released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre following his remand over alleged threats against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu. The development comes after intense public attention, family appeals, and legal proceedings in July 2026.
DJ Chicken was arrested in early July 2026 in Ikeja and subsequently arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos. He faced a three-count charge including:
• Threat to kill
• Conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace
• Violation of the Cybercrime Act
The charges stemmed from a now-deleted video posted on his social media platforms. In the clip, DJ Chicken made remarks interpreted as a threat against Seyi Tinubu while discussing the 2027 presidential election. He allegedly stated in Yoruba something to the effect of: “Tinubu you cannot win. If you enter, I will kill Seyi Tinubu.”
Following backlash, DJ Chicken posted a follow-up video clarifying that the statement was a joke meant to gain attention and withdrew the remarks.
His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, raised an alarm shortly after the arrest, appealing for intervention from influential figures and even suggesting “Better Call Sowore” for assistance. DJ Chicken’s sister also publicly begged Seyi Tinubu and other well-meaning Nigerians, including influencer Tunde Perry, for help, emphasizing that the family are orphans with limited support.
On July 10, 2026, DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all charges before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi. The court granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties of like amount. One surety was required to be a government worker, and the other a community leader with landed property in Lagos State. Pending fulfillment of these conditions, he was remanded at Kirikiri. The case was adjourned to August 3, 2026.
Reports confirm that DJ Chicken has since met his bail conditions and been released, though he remains under legal scrutiny as proceedings continue.
DJ Chicken rose to fame with his energetic DJ mixes, viral sounds, and catchphrase “Kukuruku,” which powers his popular Kukuruku Mix series. A dynamic performer, producer, and influencer, he has collaborated with artists like Portable and built a strong following through high-energy content on TikTok and Instagram. His music catalog includes recent tracks and beats like PAA CRUISE BEAT, EJor, and various Mara and cruise beats released between 2025 and 2026.
Despite his entertainment success, DJ Chicken has often courted controversy with his outspoken style. This latest incident highlights the fine line between content creation for virality and potential legal repercussions in Nigeria’s charged political environment.
The case sparked widespread debate online. Supporters called for leniency, viewing the video as typical “joke” content common among influencers, while others condemned the alleged threat as crossing a serious line. Family pleas and the involvement of high-profile individuals amplified the story’s visibility.
As DJ Chicken resumes his career, the episode serves as a cautionary tale for digital creators navigating politics and public speech.
