Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has ignited fresh debate across social media after boldly declaring that no artist has more hits than him — and putting serious money behind the claim.
During a recent livestream with content creator Davrel, the “Unavailable” singer stated: “I’ll put up $1,000,000 cash on it, nobody got more hits than me. I’ll do it versus anybody.” Clips of the moment quickly spread on X and other platforms, drawing thousands of reactions from fans, critics, and fellow artists.
The statement is classic Davido: confident, confrontational, and designed to spark conversation. The 30BG boss framed it as an open challenge, inviting any artist willing to go hit-for-hit against his catalog while staking a full million dollars in cash on the outcome.
Davido has long positioned himself as one of Afrobeats’ most consistent hitmakers. Since breaking through with “Dami Duro” in 2011, he has delivered a string of major singles including “Aye,” “Skelewu,” “Fall,” “If,” “FIA,” “Assurance,” “FEM,” “Blow My Mind” (with Chris Brown), and more recent successes such as “Unavailable” and tracks from his 2025 album 5IVE. His ability to score both street anthems and international chart entries has helped cement his status among the genre’s biggest names.
However, the claim that he has more hits than any other artist is highly contested. Chart data and streaming metrics tell a more nuanced story:
• On Nigeria’s TurnTable charts, Asake currently leads Davido in the number of official Top 10 entries.
• Globally, Wizkid and Burna Boy often outperform him in cumulative Spotify streams, Billboard Hot 100 presence, and overall international reach.
• Definitions of a “hit” vary widely — radio airplay, streaming numbers, chart peaks, cultural impact, or pure commercial sales — making any definitive ranking subjective.
Fans of Davido point to his longevity, the sheer volume of recognizable singles, and his track record of turning collaborations into major records. Detractors argue that other artists have matched or surpassed him in both quantity and global dominance over similar periods.
The clip triggered the expected mix of celebration and pushback. Supporters hailed it as the confidence of a proven star, while others called it overreach and immediately began listing rival catalogs. Some users challenged Davido to clarify the rules of any potential “versus” — whether it would be measured by the number of charting singles, total streams, or public voting.
The $1 million figure added extra heat. In an industry where artists frequently trade verbal jabs, few put real money on the line so publicly. Whether the challenge leads to an actual face-off or remains promotional banter remains to be seen.
Davido has a history of bold public statements that keep him in the conversation. This latest one reinforces his self-image as Afrobeats royalty while inviting the very comparisons that fuel fan rivalries between him, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Asake, and others.
For now, the million-dollar gauntlet is on the table.
