Christian and Islamic leaders have commended Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for redeeming his pledge to provide houses for two families who lost loved ones to violent attacks in the state.
The commendation came after the governor handed over title documents of houses to Mrs Sarah Achi and Malam Usman Aliyu during a brief ceremony at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.
Mrs Achi lost her husband, Ven. Edwin Achi, who was killed by kidnappers after his abduction, while Malam Aliyu's wife, Malama Ummulkhairi Aliyu, an Islamic teacher, was lynched by a mob in Maraban Jos in June.
Following the incidents, Governor Sani had visited the bereaved families and pledged to provide each with a house. He also promised to sponsor the education and welfare of Ummulkhairi's four children.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Archbishop of Kaduna Province, Most Rev. Timothy Yahaya, described the governor as a leader who matches his words with action.
He said many leaders make promises without fulfilling them, adding that Governor Sani had distinguished himself by keeping his commitments.
"We are grateful for bringing relief to these families. Our prayer is that God will continue to bless your administration and grant Kaduna lasting peace," the cleric said.
Also speaking, the Northern Coordinator of the Global Peace Foundation, Sheikh Haliru Maraya, said the governor had demonstrated compassion by standing with families affected by insecurity.
He recalled that the governor had earlier fulfilled a N10 million donation pledged to the family of the late Ummulkhairi and had also directed that her children be enrolled in quality schools at government expense.
Maraya added that the promise to provide the family with a three-bedroom house had also been fulfilled.
"We appreciate your consistency in ensuring that your actions reflect your promises. Kaduna is fortunate to have a compassionate leader," he said.
Responding, Governor Sani said supporting families affected by insecurity had remained a key policy of his administration since he assumed office.
He recalled that the state government handed over 50 houses to families displaced by bandit attacks last year, stressing that the initiative would continue.
"We will not abandon families who have suffered from insecurity. Government will continue to stand by them and provide the needed support," the governor said.
He also expressed delight that Mrs Achi had recovered after spending several months receiving medical treatment following the attack that claimed her husband's life.
Governor Sani reiterated his administration's commitment to easing the burden on victims of insecurity through sustained welfare and rehabilitation interventions.
