Dismemberment by D4VD: Gory Details Emerge as Prosecution Builds Ironclad Case Against Indie Singer D4vd in Teen’s Gruesome Murder

LOS ANGELES, The courtroom inside the Los Angeles County Superior Court fell into a stunned, breathless silence this week as prosecutors unspooled a harrowing web of forensic evidence, digital footprints, and chilling premeditation in the high-profile murder case against indie-pop sensation D4vd.

Born David Anthony Burke, the 21-year-old "Romantic Homicide" singer sat in court wearing an orange jumpsuit and thick black glasses, listening impassively as state prosecutors laid out a terrifying narrative: a multi-million-dollar career protected by a brutal, calculated execution.

Burke is currently facing charges of first-degree murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and the unlawful mutilation of human remains, stemming from the tragic death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. If convicted, the young artist could face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, or potentially the death penalty.

A Relationship Born in Secret, Ended in Terror

According to opening testimonies and detailed court filings, Burke and Rivas Hernandez first crossed paths online when the victim was just a preteen, eventually entering an illicit sexual relationship in late 2023 when Burke was 18 and Hernandez was only 13.

What followed was a covert dynamic spanning months, with the teenager visiting his Hollywood Hills home, joining fan circles, and even traveling with the rising star. However, prosecutors allege that by April 2025, the relationship had turned volatile. As Burke’s career trajectory skyrocketed with viral hits and lucrative label backing bringing in millions of dollars Rivas Hernandez allegedly grew jealous and threatened to expose their relationship, a move that would have shattered his burgeoning public image.

Investigators state that on the night of April 23, 2025, Burke arranged a car to bring the teenager to his residence, where he allegedly stabbed her to death.

Forensic Nightmares: Chainsaws, Blood Traces, and a Tesla Trunk

The preliminary hearing, presided over by Judge Charlaine Olmedo, has delivered day-by-day revelations that shocked even seasoned courtroom observers.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives and criminalists detailed a macabre cleanup operation. Testimony revealed that Burke allegedly used online shopping platforms purchasing items under an alias using his own credit cards to acquire multiple chainsaws, a shovel, body bags, and a blue inflatable pool.

The Garage Scene: LAPD criminalist Lauren Wallace testified that chemical testing on the rubber mats lining Burke’s garage floor revealed glowing blue under specialized lighting indicating wiped-away bloodstains that tested positive for Rivas Hernandez’s DNA. Investigators also pointed to linear cuts on the mats and damage to the inflatable pool, suggesting it was used as a platform during the dismemberment.

The Macabre Discovery: The victim's decomposed remains were ultimately located four and a half months later, in September 2025, stuffed into the front trunk (frunk) of a dust-covered Tesla Model X registered to Burke. Tow yard employees had alerted authorities after noticing an overpowering stench and swarming flies.

The Tattoos: Graphic photographs presented to the court displayed the remains inside a black body bag. Among the heartbreaking pieces of evidence was a close-up of a tattoo on the inside of the victim's right index finger reading "Shhh…"matching an identical tattoo worn by Burke, alongside another tattoo on his finger bearing her name, "Celeste".

Defense Strategy and Financial Motive

As the state pushes to prove probable cause to send the case straight to trial, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman expressed absolute confidence in the evidentiary burden. Financial records presented by prosecutors also aimed to establish a clear motive, showing that Burke’s former label, Interscope, had paid him and associated entities over $7.2 million between 2022 and 2025, with total earnings estimated upwards of $10 million. Prosecutors frame the murder as a ruthless, calculated act to protect this massive financial empire.

Meanwhile, defense attorney Blair Berk aggressively cross-examined police witnesses, probing into every step of the chain of custody, evidence collection protocols, and forensic handling laying the groundwork to challenge the prosecution’s timeline and methodology as the trial approaches.

As the preliminary hearing moves through its final scheduled days, the music world watches in disbelief, while a grieving family in Lake Elsorine searches for a measure of justice that is painfully long overdue.
