Carter Efe Calls Out D’Banj: “The Car Gift Was Just a Media Stunt – It Was Never Real”

In the fast-paced world of Nigerian entertainment and social media, where celebrity gestures often blur the line between genuine generosity and calculated publicity, content creator and streamer Carter Efe has ignited fresh controversy. On June 12, 2026, shortly after D’Banj’s birthday celebration, Efe publicly claimed that the much-hyped car “gifts” handed out at the event – including one to him – were nothing more than an elaborate PR ploy that never materialized.

During D’Banj’s lavish birthday bash in Lagos on June 11, the Afrobeats legend made headlines by presenting keys to brand-new black Lee Cars SUVs to several personalities, including streamer Carter Efe, Trinity Guy, and Berri Tiga. The moment was captured live, with cheers, cameras rolling, and widespread excitement across social media platforms. Fans celebrated what appeared to be D’Banj’s generous support for rising talents, especially amid Carter Efe’s recent high-profile streams and public persona.

Photos and videos of D’Banj and Carter Efe posing with the luxury vehicles, reportedly valued around ₦65 million in the promotion, quickly went viral, boosting visibility for D’Banj’s associated car dealership.

Hours later, the narrative took a dramatic turn. In emotional Instagram Live sessions and an X Space, Carter Efe vented his frustration, alleging that no actual cars were delivered. According to Efe, the entire event was a publicity stunt orchestrated to promote the dealership, with participants expected to play along for the cameras.

Efe further claimed that demands were made for a 10% cut of any related proceeds or value, framing the gesture as a transactional media exercise rather than a heartfelt gift. He expressed disappointment, stating he felt used for free promotion. In his outburst, Efe also dragged in Wizkid’s manager, Sunday Are (often referred to as Baba Are), accusing him of pressuring him to remain silent about the situation. He drew parallels to a past incident involving Slimcase.

“I don’t want to end up like Phyna who spoke late…” Efe reportedly said, referencing concerns over delayed or unfulfilled promises in the industry.
