The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has neutralised two suspected bandits and rescued five abducted victims during a coordinated security operation in Bwari Area Council.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters, noting that he personally led the operation.

According to the Commissioner, the operation was launched following the abduction of five residents of Paze community in Byazhin Ward, Bwari Area Council, last week.

The victims, including a pastor, were kidnapped during an attack on the community, during which a local vigilante member, Shuaibu Yerima, was reportedly killed by the assailants.

Sanusi said the rescue mission involved operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT), and the Kubwa Area Command, working in collaboration with local hunters and vigilante groups.

He explained that the joint security team commenced an intensive search, clearance, and rescue operation around Paze and Byazhin communities at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The operation led to the neutralisation of two suspected bandits, while two other suspects identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman were arrested. Several members of the gang reportedly escaped into nearby hills during the encounter.

The police commissioner further revealed that two AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines were recovered during the operation.

He confirmed that all five rescued victims have been taken to hospital for medical evaluation and will be reunited with their families after receiving necessary care.

Sanusi added that security operatives have intensified search operations across neighbouring communities to apprehend fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network behind the kidnappings.

He also urged healthcare workers in public and private medical facilities to promptly report individuals seeking treatment for gunshot wounds or presenting suspicious injuries to security agencies. :::
