APC Sweeps Five of Six By-Elections as INEC Declares Winners Nationwide

The All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a commanding performance in Saturday's senatorial, federal constituency and state assembly by-elections, winning five of the six contests conducted across the country, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured the lone victory in Rivers State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results after the conclusion of voting and collation across the affected constituencies.

The by-elections were conducted to fill vacancies created by deaths, appointments and other developments affecting representation in the National Assembly and state legislatures.

Enugu North Senatorial District

In Enugu State, Asogwa Ikeje Israel of the APC emerged victorious in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election after polling 162,360 votes.

Other candidates secured:

NDC – 3,129 votes

ADC – 1,676 votes

Labour Party (LP) – 1,027 votes

Nasarawa North Senatorial District

APC candidate Danladi Envulu-Anza won the Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election with 45,362 votes, defeating his closest rivals, Labour Party's Labaran Maku, who polled 12,931 votes, and PDP's David Ombugadu, who secured 11,570 votes.

Other results include:

ADC (Alaku Ahmed) – 4,244 votes

NDC (Duba Dodo) – 1,496 votes

NNPP (John Araneshri) – 102 votes

The election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of former senator Godiya Akwashiki.

Ondo South Senatorial District

In Ondo State, Dayo Faduyile of the APC won the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election, polling 68,474 votes.

Other candidates received:

APM (Adeolu Akinwunmi) – 1,411 votes

APP (Adesanya Olaoluwa) – 213 votes

BP (Clement Funso-Nejo) – 70 votes

The by-election followed the appointment of former senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Rivers South-East Senatorial District

The PDP prevented an APC clean sweep after its candidate, Olaka Nwogu, won the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election with 47,961 votes.

The APC's Osarosaka Ebenezer came second with 1,647 votes, while:

AA (Beke Fabeke) – 1,175 votes

Labour Party (Sam Bariboa) – 367 votes

The election was held to fill the vacancy created by the death of former senator Barinada Mpigi.

Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, Kano

In Kano State, APC candidate Rabiu Shuaibu was declared winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election after securing 35,356 votes.

Other candidates polled:

APM (Lawal Haruna) – 268 votes

Labour Party (Abubakar Muhammad) – 98 votes

Announcing the result, Returning Officer Prof. Umar Sani declared Shuaibu duly elected, having satisfied the requirements of the law.

Zuru State Constituency, Kebbi

The APC also clinched the Zuru State Constituency seat in Kebbi State, with Rabiu Aiki polling 4,871 votes to defeat Labour Party candidate Aliyu Muhammad, who secured 168 votes.

INEC disclosed that 109,385 voters were registered for the election, while 5,156 voters were accredited. A total of 5,150 votes were cast, comprising 5,055 valid votes and 95 rejected ballots.

With his victory, Aiki will represent Zuru Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly.

The outcome of the by-elections further consolidates the APC's legislative strength across several states, with the ruling party securing five of the six seats contested, while the PDP retained a foothold through its victory in Rivers South-East Senatorial District.
