Nigerian Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold, popularly known as Big Fish, had fans in stitches after sharing a candid video of himself jumping into the open sea from a yacht, only to quickly realize that open water is nothing like a swimming pool. The light-hearted clip, posted on his Instagram, shows the singer during a sunny boat trip (reportedly in Marbella, Spain). In his trademark humorous voice-over, Adekunle Gold recounts the entire experience with honesty and self-deprecation.

“My friend now said let’s jump into the water. And just like that I did,” he starts. Moments later, reality hits. “See the trouble I put myself in now. We jumped too far from the boat. Now just throw the rope.” Despite wearing a life jacket, the singer and his friend found themselves struggling against the waves as they tried to climb back aboard. Adekunle Gold, who has openly admitted he’s more comfortable in pools than in the ocean, can be heard repeatedly calling for help and thanking God once they are safely back on the yacht.

Fans immediately focused on the irony of the moment. The man who calls himself “Big Fish” and “Eja Nla” (big fish in Yoruba) was clearly out of his depth in the real sea. Comments flooded in praising his humor and honesty, with many sharing their own fears about swimming and reminding everyone to always prioritize safety on the water.

The video quickly went viral, with many describing the voice-over as “too sweet” and the scene as pure comedy gold. For an artist known for smooth vocals and a stylish image, this unfiltered, relatable moment gave fans a refreshing look at the man behind the music.
