The internal dispute arising from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship primaries in Kaduna State has taken a new dimension following conflicting positions over the outcome of the party’s appeal process.
The disagreement, which has reportedly split members of the Appeal Committee, has generated uncertainty over the party’s governorship candidate, with rival camps laying claim to decisions favouring both Shu’aibu Idris Miqati and another aspirant, Ashiru.
Amid the controversy, the Miqati Support Group (MSG) has reaffirmed its support for Miqati, describing him as the duly recognised governorship candidate of the party.
Speaking at a news conference in Kaduna, the State Coordinator of the group, Imrana Mansur, urged party members and stakeholders to set aside their differences and unite behind Miqati in preparation for the forthcoming governorship election.
Mansur said the group remained convinced that the outcome recognising Miqati reflected the wishes of party members and offered the best opportunity for the ADC to consolidate its strength ahead of the polls.
He appealed to other contestants and their supporters to embrace reconciliation and work collectively for the growth of the party, stressing that prolonged disagreements could undermine the ADC’s electoral prospects.
According to him, the party’s overall interest should take precedence over personal ambitions, adding that unity and cooperation are essential for achieving success at the ballot box.
The group also pledged its commitment to fostering peace and harmony within the party and called on members to remain calm, law-abiding and focused on strengthening the ADC ahead of future political engagements.
