Accord Slams EFCC Over Osun Accounts

The party further alleged that the anti-graft agency was working in concert with other federal security agencies to frustrate the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke and create an uneven playing field before the poll.

The Accord Party has condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) freezing of an Osun State Government account ahead of the August 15 governorship election, describing the action as unconstitutional and politically motivated.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Chairman, Chief Maxwell Mgbudem, the party alleged that the account freeze was part of a wider plan to cripple the state government and influence the outcome of the election.

Accord argued that the EFCC acted without obtaining a court order and vowed to challenge the decision in court.

The party further alleged that the anti-graft agency was working in concert with other federal security agencies to frustrate the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke and create an uneven playing field before the poll.

It also accused the police of harassing, arresting and intimidating its members and supporters across Osun State, claiming the actions had heightened political tension in the state.

Calling on President Bola Tinubu to ensure a free, fair and credible election, Accord urged security agencies to remain neutral and professional throughout the electoral process.

The party also demanded the unconditional release of its members and supporters allegedly detained in Abuja, Osun and Nasarawa states, insisting that citizens must be allowed to exercise their democratic rights without intimidation.

Accord maintained that any attempt to manipulate the governorship election would be resisted, adding that Governor Ademola Adeleke remained the preferred candidate of the people and would be returned to office.
